Experience revolutionary food engagement.

Whether you choose to participate in one or many of our programs, we promise that once you work with us, you will never look at food the same way again. Join us at our Hub for Revolutionary Food Engagement or let us come to you and reconnect with the food you eat while learning valuable lessons about soil health, growing fruits and vegetables, preparing delicious, nutrient-dense dishes, and returning waste to the soil by composting.

At the Hub

FARM TOUR (90 MINUTES)

During your 90-minute visit, you will be fully immersed in our Hub for Revolutionary Food Engagement with a tour of Stearns Native Nursery, an introduction to the sustainable practices we utilize, information on growing your own gardens at home, and tasting of the available harvests. This option is great for school field trips or community groups looking to learn more about caring for the land and participating in the community food system.

$450 for up to 30 people; additional participants may be added for $15 each

PLANT + PICK (3 HOURS)

This interactive workshop invites you to come and harvest with us. In addition to the content covered in Farm Tour, you’ll participate in a cooking demo which utilizes seasonally available fruits and vegetables and provides a recipe you can take home to share with family and friends. Geared for any group size + type, including corporate outings, healthcare continuing education and youth-based learning initiatives.

$900 for up to 30 people; additional participants may be added for $30 each

IN THE classroom + COMMUNITY

SFK MOBILE KITCHEN + GARDEN (50 MINUTES)

We partner with school and community organizations to deliver immersive agricultural and culinary experiences anywhere from the classroom to school garden spaces to Zoom. Our robust K-12 curriculum focused on “understanding our community food system” was developed by a licensed educator, tied to state standards and built to satisfy STEM requirements.

Students are engaged in the full cycle of food: growing, cooking, eating, and composting! Program includes a presentation, culinary demo, tasting, and enrichment activities geared toward developing culinary self-reliance, food literacy, and knowledge of nutrition, and we are happy to work with you to tailor the content to suit your group.

$450 for up to 30 people; additional participants may be added for $15 each

Also, ask us about how we can help you start a school garden! From a couple raised garden beds to a full installation, we have the experience and expertise to design, build, and plan your interactive, outdoor learning space.

FREE ONLINE CURRICULUM

We’re excited to announce the launch of Local Lessons for Growing Minds, an online curriculum focused on changing the way students connect to their community food system! It’s fast, easy to access and 100% free.

Local Lessons for Growing Minds encourages students to understand local food systems and how to make healthy food choices, learn about the importance of where their food comes from and connect lesson topics across different STEM subjects and courses.

Our engaging multi-media lessons focus on Spice Field Kitchen’s core principles:

  • Inspire young minds to make mindful choices about what they eat.

  • Connect schools, homes and communities by providing practical information about sourcing, eating, and promoting local foods that nourish young students.

The lessons include video interviews with local producers, worksheets & activities, and easy recipes for cafeteria use and for students to take home.

This initiative meets state STEM educational curriculum requirements and teaches life skills students can use outside of the classroom! Our lessons are pre-planned for seamless classroom delivery and come with materials like teacher discussion guides and enrichment activities tiered for different grade levels.

Sign up your classroom, organization or family for Local Lessons for Growing Minds today!

Local Lessons For Growing Minds was developed in collaboration with our grant partners, Feed Our Future, Pisanick Partners, and Muse Content Group.
